Cisco Unified Communications

A common example of telabuse is an employee forwarding their business phone to their home phone, then having friends in remote locations call in on an 800 number and select their business extension from the auto-attendant. The call completes and is billed to the 800 number, not to the caller. Remote access/direct inward system access (DISA) was a useable feature in PBXs that allowed users to dial into the PBX, enter a code, then dial out from the PBX. This could be done from remote locations via an 800 number and was designed to allow users to make business-related calls from remote locations without having to pay the toll charge. The problem was that these numbers were heavily targeted by hackers, and once a DISA code was hacked, thousands of dollars in long distance charges could be incurred in a very short amount of time.

Online marketing - Succeeding beyond your budget

Bruce Townsend, marketing manager at ecommerce software specialist Actinic, draws on real life examples to examine how businesses can make a success of their website.

Achieving business success online is not about how much money you can throw at the marketing budget. It's all about attracting and keeping customers. There is no benefit in being extravagant, only in being smart. A strong customer focus, targeted cost-effective marketing and a little creative thinking will take you a long way towards establishing a successful e-business.

Get niche or get out

The adage, 'get big, get niche or get out' is nowhere more true than in e-commerce. The web can reduce costs to a minimum and enable you to keep prices low, but the largest companies will still achieve the greatest economies of scale.

Apple Spills $10M to Settle Burst Suit

Apple has settled its patent lawsuit with Burst.com, a small software technology firm. The agreement has the iPod maker paying $10 million to Burst in order to license some of the latter's patents. The amount isn't exactly pocket lint, even for a company Apple's size, but the results could have been much more damaging to Cupertino.

Gannett Appoints New CDO

You might imagine that more than a couple of companies have tossed the title of Chief Digital Officer at some random young guy. Gannett Co. seems to have thought things through, however, and it's given the position to Chris Saridakis, the CEO of PointRoll.

No corporate poaching took place in this transfer; PointRoll, a media solutions business, is owned by Gannett. This closeness should, in addition to avoiding bad feelings, lend Saridakis an instant familiarity with the company's operations.

Craig Dubow, the chairman, president, and CEO of Gannett, certainly seems to have confidence in his new CDO. "He will use his talent and ability to move rapidly in further developing Gannett into a digital powerhouse," Dubow said in a statement.

But aside from word of a couple of other personnel shifts, that's all the news out of Gannett today; there were no hints as to what Saridakis will do with his title, in other words.

NBC's '30 Rock' Suggests Republicans Like to Torture Whales for Fun

You've already lost face with your histrionics. Now we have to tailor our political humor to the understanding of immigrants? This from the side of the ideological spectrum that says immigrants should irrevocably assimilate to our culture?

Yeah, that's it, GE is out to slander your beliefs and dupe immigrants into being leftists. That's the kind of long-shot hail-Mary theory that usually gets written up with derision on this site.

"He was, and is yet, most likely, the wearisomest, self-righteous pharisee that ever ransacked a Bible to rake the promises to himself and fling the curses on his neighbors." -Emily Bronte
