Salazar stumps for Greeley for cheese plant
U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar on Friday urged cheese manufacturer Leprino Foods Co. to open a second Colorado plant, preferably in Greeley. Salazar, D-Colo., released a letter he sent Thursday to company CEO James Leprino recounting a visit to the Fort Morgan plant in August. The CEO told Salazar he was considering a second plant, "perhaps in the Greeley area," according to the letter. "An additional Leprino plant in the Greeley area would be a welcome and important addition to the Northern Colorado economy," Salazar wrote. "It is my strong hope that you will ultimately decide to locate your plant in Greeley." Privately held Leprino Foods ranks as the largest producer of mozzarella cheese in the world. The company's headquarters is in Denver.
