Search Insider Summit - Day 1 Pics

Out of those photos there are daily favorites that give a visual of what the conference day was like.

Day one of Search Insider Summit here in Park City Utah was fast paced and information rich. The Compete.com opening VIP breakfast warmed things up while snow started to fall out side.

Sessions covered included Gord Hotchkiss’ opening remarks and keynote debate with Mike Margolin.

Those lively presentations were followed by Managing Search in an Uncertain Economy and a breakout, Leveraging Local Search on a National Basis.

Lunch was sponsored by Google / YouTube and while I unfortunately did not blog it, Chris Heuer did.

There was a Google flip camera giveaway won by a young lady named Maxine.

Premarket Movers: IBM jumps

Banc of America Securities analyst Craig Scott credited Apple's introduction of its Leopard operating system for strong sales of Mac computers, and raised his earnings expectations for Apple. Noting concern for tech overall because of recent economic trends, Scott said, "While none of our names are immune from economic changes, we believe that Apple is less likely to be impacted by such changes due to the company's unique and diversified business model, loyal customer base, and market share gains."

On the downside, shares of Opnext Inc. continued to sink after a 36.5 percent decline in Friday's trading, after the Eatontown, N.J., company lowered its sales guidance for its fiscal third quarter, citing lowered demand.

That announcement generated a host of negative comments from analysts, including a downgraded from Needham & Co.

The Mecca of Pheasant Hunting

We all feel the excitement when we harvest a large buck or land the lunker fish; but limiting out after only four hours of hunting and then accomplishing this as a team of guys gathering so far from home, was really special.

While I would like to say the rest of the hunt went as well; it would be virtually impossible to duplicate the success of our first day. The rest of the hunt was fruitful, just typical SD hunting consisting of lots of walking and systematic harvesting of pheasants. With all things being equal, harvesting wild pheasants in Americas heart land has to be one of best adventures you can undertake.

While the majority of hunters are middle aged white collared professionals, two of the hunters were unique.

Had Nintendo been able to meet demand, it would have ended the year so far ahead of the other players that it could have dominated the console and handheld game player market. However, by missing, everyone stays in the game. This is going to hurt in 2008 as the other folks bring their prices in line with the market.
